Staying Hydrated 💦

With the hot weather continuing we wanted to remind you all of the importance of staying hydrated.

Our bodies lose water throughout the day in urine and sweat as well as lesser amounts through breathing. Dehydration is when your body does not have as much water as it needs (i.e your body is losing more fluids than you take in).

Symptoms of dehydration include feeling thirsty, dark yellow pee and dizziness.

Here are our top tips for drinking more water every day.

1. Get a pretty reusable water bottle 🧴
Keeping a water bottle handy can serve as a visual reminder to drink more water. If you see the bottle on your desk or table, you will constantly be reminded to drink more. It can also be challenging to drink enough water when travelling or on the go. Fill your water bottle before you leave home, and bring it along on your daily travels. Plus, it’s better for the environment than relying on single-use plastic water bottles.

2. Add water to your daily routine 📅
Make drinking water a habit by drinking at set points during the day, e.g. as soon as you get up, drink before a meal, drink while at the computer or watching TV, etc. Sipping on water consistently throughout the day is another easy way to help you meet your fluid goals.

3. Make it fruity 🍓🍋
If you dislike the flavour of water, or just need a bit of flavour to help you drink more, you have many choices. Adding fruit to your water can give that lovely fruity hint. For a citrus kick try lemons, limes and oranges or stick to the classic cucumber, watermelon or kiwi and strawberries. The combinations are endless. Feeling adventurous, why not have a play with adding some fresh herbs such as mint!

4. Eat your water 🥒🍉
One simple way to get more water is to eat more foods that are high in water. Fruits and vegetables that are particularly high in water include lettuce, celery, cucumber, watermelon and grapefruit. In addition to their high fluid content, these fruits and vegetables are packed with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that promote your overall health.
