It is World Chocolate Day today (7th July) – what better excuse to have a little indulgence.
Not only does eating dark chocolate trigger the brain to release endorphins, known as the “feel good” hormones but cocoa also has some other surprising health benefits including:
High in magnesium, iron and zinc
High in polyphenols and flavonoids which have protective antioxidant properties
Helps reduce stress
Helps control sugar cravings
In the WLA we do not demonise any foods and no foods are off-limits. We use the 80:20 guide along with the WLA formula, portion sizes, intuitive eating and behaviour change to help you eat foods that you enjoy without feeling restricted.
SO HELL YES – EAT CHOCOLATE TODAY
But remember to control your portion size – a few squares should be enough to satisfy those chocolate cravings and go for a chocolate with a high % of cacao solids as these will contain fewer added sugars.
Here is one of our favourite chocolate recipes – hope you enjoy it
