Today, I want to have a bit of discussion on self-sabotage…
What is self-sabotage? ????
When you look for this term’s definition over the net, it would say self-sabotage is when we actively or passively take steps to prevent ourselves from reaching our goals. ????
This behaviour can affect nearly every aspect of our lives, be it a relationship, a career goal, or a personal goal such as weight loss.
In layman’s terms or if I would simply put it, it means just letting things unfold on its own, making it worse and not doing anything about it.
You have already screwed it up, why bother fixing it? ????♀️
Doesn’t sound right, would you agree?
In weight loss, an example would be: I ate so much today, might as well just eat and eat throughout the day, following day, and start anew the following week, until that “starting anew” never happens.
But how do we get out of this vicious cycle? Can we really do something about it?
The answer is a definite YES. ????
Let me give you a metaphor as I love metaphors. I just feel that metaphors make a seem-to-be-complex concepts, way easier to understand…
In the academy, we have a favourite metaphor that we use to better explain self-sabotage which is “Be Your Own Firefighter”. ????????????????
This metaphor is perfect on how you should approach your struggles not just with weight loss but even in life in general.
As you noticed, the firefighter’s job is to extinguish or put the fire out as soon as he can.
He doesn’t sit down and mull over the situation before he acts on it, waiting for the fire to create more damage.
Once he knows that the fire is happening, he immediately takes action until he puts out the fire. ????
This is the same thing that everyone of us should be keeping in mind.
You have to be your own firefighter. You need to put your own situation under control and not allow it to fester and fester and takes you away from where you want to be…
Know that any moment, you have that ability to claim your power back and take control of the situation… Yes, you can… ????
Are you just going to sit down and watch things get worse, take you further away from where you want to be, or are you going to get back and take action so you can move towards your destination? What would be your choice?
Remember, it’s always the mindset that is allowing you to keep going further away from your goals and not the circumstances. It’s time to drop all the excuses and take charge…????
I hope that you learned something from this. Let me know your takeaways by writing your thoughts and comments below. ⤵️
